The hanbo is a medium/short staff, measuring roughly 36 inches or 3 feet. Like the jo, it is used as a single stick and in self-defense applications and in traditional kata. One of the unique aspects of this length of staff is that it can be controlled both with two hands and with one hand. I primarily make straight round and straight octagonal hanbo.

Below are examples of designs I have made in the past. Each of these is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece. Some of these are designs that I may repeat if I find the right wood.
