TANBO
Tanbo are short sticks, usually around 24 inches (2 feet long), used singly, or in pairs for striking and grappling. Due to my own focus on grappling and control techniques, I make both round and octagonal designs (the additional “corners” aid in an opponents pain compliance). For those practicing more stick on stick exercises (as taught in Filipino Escrima) all weapons can be made round to order. Traditionally, the tanbo is somewhat heavier than the sticks used in escrima and arnis.
Below are examples of designs I have made in the past. Each of these is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece. Some of these are designs that I may repeat if I find the right wood.
